Android Could Feature Native WiFi Printing In The Future

If you wanted to print from your phone wirelessly, typically you have to ensure that your printer and smartphone are connected on the same network, which sometimes can be a bit troublesome or inconvenient. However according to the folks at XDA (via Android Police), native WiFi printing could soon become an Android feature.

What’s the difference between this new feature and what’s currently available? Like we said right now it relies on the phone and printer to be connected onto the same network. However this new feature essentially means that your phone will connect to the printer in a similar way like Bluetooth.

As Android Police points out, a few manufacturers like Samsung and HP have created their own direct printing solutions, but this feature would make it a native feature within Android, presumably to allow users who own other brands to make use of the wireless printing feature. That being said, it is unclear when this feature will be baked into Android.

Chances are if and when we do see it, it will most likely be in the next major Android update which is scheduled for this year in the form of Android P, but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for more information for when it is released.
