For those who are a fan of football (or soccer, depending on where you’re from), you might be interested to learn that in a report from Bloomberg, Amazon is apparently looking to bid on the rights to be able to stream the English Premier League series of matches. The English Football Association is said to be opening up bids for broadcasting rights in February, and the report claims that Amazon could be considering making a bid for it.
So far in the UK, traditional broadcasters such as Sky and BT were the ones who got to stream the matches, but Amazon stepping in could prove to be interesting. Note that football/soccer is huge in many parts of the world, such as the UK and also in various countries in Asia, which means that landing the rights to stream the EPL (which is just one of the many leagues in the world) would be a huge coup for Amazon.
It would also most likely tie-in with their Prime subscription which gives customers access to music, videos, and more, and the ability to stream live EPL matches would also no doubt give customers more reasons to sign up for it.
