The Airbnb Experiences program offers its users the opportunities to connect with locals at the destination to have, as the name suggests, new experiences. It lets Airbnb offer more than just short-term rentals and also enables those who may not have an extra room to rent out to make some money on the side by simply hosting people at their cooking class or walking tour. Airbnb has now confirmed that it’s expanding its Experiences program to 200 cities across the United States.
Airbnb says that since launching Experiences, it has seen global weekly guest bookings go up over 2,000 percent and the number of active experiences has surged 500 percent. Airbnb is now offering more than 4,000 experiences globally across 50 cities.
The company also revealed that the average earnings for someone who hosts experiences nine times per month is $6,200 annually in the U.S. Those who are able to host more frequently like 15 times or so per month are making upwards of $24,000 annually. More than 1,000 experiences and counting are currently being offered in the United States and Airbnb wants to increase that number significantly.
The company says that it’s going to invest $5 million in the United States this year for its Experiences program in order to develop, support, and promote entrepreneurs. This effort will help expand Airbnb Experiences to 200 cities across the country.
