If wearable devices were all the industry could talk about a couple of years ago, this year it has all been about smart speakers. Major companies like Amazon and Google are competing in this space. The competition will certainly continue to grow in the new year and so will the market’s interest. A new report suggests that smart speakers are going to outsell wearable devices during the U.S. holiday season this year.
The U.S. holiday season is not just a time when people spend time with their friends and family. It’s also a time when people shop. Billions of dollars are spent on gifts for loved ones annually and the pie continues to grow each year.
The latest report from eMarketer suggests that smart speakers are going to outsell wearable devices this year. This means that the growth rate for devices like smartwatches and fitness trackers has slowed down in the United States.
The report blames the slowing growth rate on the generally high cost of wearable devices and that they’ve not yet become mainstream as customers haven’t really be sold on the idea that these are devices that they can’t really live without.
Smart speakers are predicted to be the gift of choice this holiday season due to their lower price points. eMarketer also predicts that 55 percent of U.S. households will have at least one smart speaker by 2022.
