Nintendo Switch’s Online Paid Subscription Could Launch Fall 2018

With the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo has certainly changed some of the ways they do business. One of those ways is an online subscription program similar to PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold, where gamers are required to pay a monthly subscription fee to enjoy online multiplayer gaming and other features.

The feature has yet to be launched and was originally scheduled for a release this year, but that has yet to happen. However it looks like the feature could have been delayed further and might now only be launched in the fall of 2018. This is according to a report from Wccftech in which the information was spotted on Nintendo’s Italian website.

The information (translated) reads, “You’ll be able to play compatible co-op and competitive games online by signing in with your Nintendo Account. Online play is free for Nintendo Account holders until our paid online service launches in 2018.” Given that this was the Italian website, it is unclear if this new timeframe is applicable to just the EU, or if Nintendo is planning on the feature going live at the same time for all users.

In case you might have forgotten, Nintendo had previously confirmed the pricing of its online subscription where it will cost $3.99 a month for a month-to-month subscription, $7.99 for 3-months upfront, or $19.99 for a 12-month membership upfront.
