However the good news is that if you enjoyed the first movie, you’ll be pleased to learn that the second movie will be retaining the same tone/direction as the first because it has been reported that Homecoming’s director, Jon Watts, will be returning for the sequel. This is apparently based on audience reports from Comic-Con Brazil, in which Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige made a call confirming the director’s return.
Note that this is based on audience reports and that neither Marvel, Feige, or Watts himself have officially announced anything. Prior to this, Watts was cagey involving his involvement with the sequel, saying that he prefers keeping his focus to one movie at a time. Holland on the other hand has been a vocal champion of Watts’ return, saying that they couldn’t do another Spider-Man movie without Watts.
In any case take this with a grain of salt for now, but like we said if you liked what Watts did with Homecoming, then his possible return for the sequel is probably good news for fans. The sequel is expected to be released following Avengers 4 which is slated for 2019.
