In a report from MySmartPrice (via PhoneArena), the feature could have infringed on the company’s patent. Speaking to the publication, the CEO and co-founder of SensibleVision George Brostoff was quoted as saying, “We have not licensed our patents to OnePlus or their supplier. From the video on Forbes, they are likely infringing at the very least on our illumination patent.”
Brostoff also goes on to add that in addition to the Face Unlock feature, OnePlus could have also infringed upon other patents in the phone, such as using the phone’s display as an illuminator, which he claims that other companies might have potentially infringed upon as well, not just OnePlus.
That being said, it is unclear as to what SensibleVision plans to do about this. Brostoff claims that legal process is usually seen as a last resort, and that they would prefer if they could work with OnePlus on resolving it amicably as partners. Whether or not OnePlus takes SensibleVision up on their offer remains to be seen as the company has yet to comment on the matter.
