Space is probably the most appropriate place to watch the latest Star Wars movie and that’s precisely what astronauts aboard the International Space Station will be doing. NASA has confirmed that they will be watching the much awaited movie that’s opening in cinemas across the globe later this week.
It’s not unusual for the crew to watch movies up there. The ISS has a decent library of more than 500 movies which includes both classics and recent titles. Astronauts are free to watch movies on their days off.
The ISS astronauts will watch the movie several hundred miles above the Earth’s surface y using one of the laptops onboard or the projector. A spokesperson for NASA has confirmed that the crew will watch the movie on orbit.
NASA Public Affairs Officer Dan Huot confirmed to Inverse that while the astronauts will watch the movie, it’s not clear when they will be watching it. “They typically get movies as digital files and can play them back on a laptop or a standard projector that is currently aboard,” he added.
The hotly anticipated Star Wars movie opens in cinemas across the globe this weekend. The initial reviews have been good and will certainly be flocking to cinemas to see the latest addition to the Star Wars franchise.
