For the past few years, HBO’s Game of Thrones has had the “honor” of being the most pirated TV show, a title that they’ve won pretty much for the past six years or so, and it seems that their streak won’t be ending anytime soon because according to a report from TorrentFreak, Game of Thrones is 2017’s most pirated TV show as well.
Or rather to be more specific, Game of Thrones is 2017’s most torrented TV show of 2017 based on BitTorrent traffic. As TorrentFreak notes, given that there are plenty of avenues for watching Game of Thrones illegally, it’s hard to tell how much the series has been pirated, but based on torrents alone it seems to be just as popular as before.
In fact a report from September revealed that Game of Thrones Season 7 was pirated a whopping 1 billion times. Other shows that have made the “honor” of being the most downloaded include AMC’s The Walking Dead in second place, CW’s The Flash, The Big Bang Theory, Rick and Morty, Prison Break, Sherlock, Vikings, Suits, and Arrow rounding off the top ten list.
We expect that moving forwards the final season of Game of Thrones will be no different. In fact if anything it is possible that its piracy could reach even greater heights due to it officially concluding the series. That being said, the eighth and final season is expected to be released in 2019, so fans will still have a bit of waiting to do.
