This is according to a post from Chinese publication MyDrivers (via PhoneRadar) in which they report that Sony has sent out invites to a media event during CES. This would seem to suggest that Sony has new products to announce, but given that Sony’s portfolio ranges from headphones, to televisions, to speakers, consoles, and more, it’s hard to say for sure if a smartphone is one of the products they will unveil.
In addition, the report claims that the upcoming Sony flagship smartphone is also expected to pack the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. Even if there weren’t any leaks, it would have been a safe assumption that most companies would probably use Qualcomm’s latest chipset for their flagship phones, and Sony would be no exception.
In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but we should find out for ourselves in the next couple of weeks. That being said, we should remind you guys that as far as Sony’s mobile efforts are concerned, the company has reduced their focus on certain markets such as India, China, and the US, so we can’t be sure that even if the phone were to be launched, it would find its way stateside.
