For those unfamiliar, Marvel had previously sold the movie rights to those franchises to Fox back in the day before the Marvel Cinematic Universe came about, which explains why the MCU has never featured any of those characters. However with the acquisition of Fox, Disney has confirmed what we’re sure many comic book lovers have been waiting to hear, which is that the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool will be folded into the MCU.
According to a report from Deadline, it quotes Disney’s CEO Bob Iger as saying, “We’re also looking forward to expanding the Marvel cinematic universe to include X-Men, Fantastic Four and Deadpool and reuniting all of the Star Wars movies ever made under one roof, which opens new opportunities for that franchise.”
Iger had also previously stated that Disney does plan to keep Deadpool R-rated as they believe that it works, and that it will be fine as long as they let people know beforehand. However when and how Disney/Marvel plan to bring those franchises back into the MCU remains to be seen, but it might be a while considering that there are still quite a few Marvel movies in the works. Now if only Disney could somehow wrest control back of Spider-Man from Sony, that’d be great.
