Atari fans who were looking forward to pre-order the company’s new console today will be disappointed to find out that the Ataribox pre-orders have been delayed. The company was supposed to start taking pre-orders for its new machine from today but it appears that development problems have forced Atari to delay the pre-orders. The company has confirmed this in an email that it sent out today.
The Ataribox console was confirmed earlier this year. It has a wooden box much like the classic 2600 console. The console will offer players a new experience while staying true to Atari’s heritage.
Atari previously sent out emails to interested customers informing them that they will be able to place pre-orders for the Ataribox starting December 14th. The console itself is supposed to be released at some point next year. The company will charge around $300 for it.
Atari has now sent out a new email today announcing that the pre-orders have been delayed because it needs more time “to create the platform and ecosystem the Atari community deserves.” It wants to ensure that the Ataribox lives up to fans’ expectations.
Therefore, it’s delaying pre-orders so that it can take the extra time to sort out the problems that this product is facing. Atari hasn’t confirmed a new launch plan yet. It says that one will be announced in the coming weeks.
