Apple Could Launch Two OLED iPhones With Face ID In 2018

The iPhone X has only just recently started going out to customers but it seems that rumors and interest in 2018’s models have already started to build. In a recent report from KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, it seems that if you wanted more options for an OLED iPhone, 2018 will be the year to expect that.

The analyst claims that in 2018, Apple could launch two OLED iPhone models. These new iPhones are also said to feature a new metal frame made from stainless steel that is supposed to help improve data transmission quality, and to top it off, Kuo also claims that Face ID will be replacing Touch IDs in 2018’s models, although the TrueDepth camera system is expected to remain exclusive to the front of the iPhone and won’t be finding its way into the rear-facing cameras just yet.

As it stands, Apple has three flagship iPhones that are part of its 2017 lineup: the iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and the X. It is unclear if Kuo’s reference to two OLED iPhone models means that we’ll be going back to two flagship models a year, or if there will be a third model whose details are still unknown at this point in time.

This is also not the first time that Kuo has suggested that Face ID could replace Touch ID on the iPhones, although Kuo’s report from a couple of months ago suggested that this is contingent on Face ID being well-received. However we wouldn’t be surprised if Apple were to make the shift, especially given that Apple had designed the iPhone X with only Face ID in mind.
