This was revealed during Square Enix’s latest financials in which the company stated that they would be “aggressively” pursuing development for the Switch. The company goes on to add that the core architectures of the individual consoles from Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo are apparently “similar”, and that multiplatform development is possible, where one game is made and then optimized for each console.
Exactly what kind of titles we might be looking at is unclear, but this isn’t the first time Square Enix has praised the Switch console. Earlier this year the company promised that they will be fully supporting the console. Final Fantasy XV’s director even called the Switch a “dream machine”.
At one point it was even hinted that the company was interested in exploring the possibility of maybe bringing Final Fantasy XV onto the Switch, although there are currently no plans. In any case the Switch has been very well-received, at least compared to its predecessor the Wii U, so we wouldn’t be surprised if more developers were to start hopping on board.
