It has been possible to buy merchandise on Spotify for quite some time now and its merchandise sales are now going to include beauty products. This goes to show that Spotify is working to expand its platform beyond just music streaming. Never before has it been possible to purchase makeup on Spotify.
This is an expansion of Spotify’s partnership with Merchbar. It started working with this company last year to sell artists’ merchandise on their Spotify profile pages.
Merchbar is working with a popular makeup artist Pat McGrath and musician Maggie Lindemann to offer a wider variety of merchandise, enabling fans to “shop the look” of their favorite artist.
The idea is to reach fans where they’re most engaged, and Spotify is the place to reach them as it’s the most widely used music streaming service on the market today.
“That’s why this relationship with Spotify is absolutely major, because it merges beauty and music in a whole new way, that’s never been done before,” McGrath said.
Spotify doesn’t take a cut of the sales that are generated from its platform so it won’t get a cut of these makeup sales. The company allows this integration between its platform and Merchbar’s to provide more incentives to artists and enable them to make more money on Spotify than they already do from streaming royalties.
