Those who own a Sony Xperia X Performance should keep an eye out for a firmware update notification today as the company has started rolling out the Oreo update for this device. Sony has been on a roll recently with the Oreo update for some of its handsets. It released Oreo for the Xperia XZ and XZs merely days ago. When those devices received Oreo, it was clear that the Xperia X Performance would also end up getting the Oreo update in the very near future.

Sony launched the Xperia X Performance in February last year. It came with Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. It was updated to Android 7.1 Nougat in November last year. Oreo is likely the last major Android platform update that this device is ever going to get.

As is the case with most major firmware updates, Sony is likely rolling it out in stages which means it’s going to take some time before the Xperia X Performance Oreo update goes live in all regions. The Android 8.0 Oreo update for the Xperia X Performance brings all of the new features that are part and parcel of the Android 8.0 Oreo platform upgrade.

The update also brings Sony’s Xperia Actions feature which offers users intelligently suggested settings based on their usage. They also get all new gaming and commuting features. Sony has also redesigned app shortcuts by a long-press and the software will now provide easy access to actions.
