However the good news is that the Pixel 2 handsets have recently received an update in which Google has addressed the display burn-in issue, as well as introducing new display profile options for users. Starting with the display color profiles, this was a feature that Google had promised earlier last month, and sure enough they delivered.
Users will now be able to choose from more color profiles than before, where they could only enable/disable the “vivid colors” option. Now users will be able to select from “boosted”, “natural”, or “saturated”. As for the display burn-in problem, Google has made changes where there is a small reduction in max brightness, and a navigation bar that will fade out after a period of inactivity that will hopefully reduce burn-in problems that some Pixel 2 owners have been facing.
Google is not done with the updates yet and in a post in the Pixel User Community, Google promises that more enhancements for the Pixel 2 XL’s display will arrive in a December update. That being said, OLED burn-ins aren’t a problem faced exclusively by the Pixel 2 phones. Apple has recently issued a warning in which they state that the iPhone X’s display could face burn-in problems too under a certain set of circumstances.
