If there is one thing Android users can lord over iPhone users is expandable storage. For the most part, a lot of Android phones out there typically allow users to expand the storage capacity of their handsets using microSD cards, versus iPhones where you need to decide how much storage you want, with the larger storage models usually costing at least $100 more.
Google knows this and in their latest ad for the Pixel 2 phones, Google threw a little shade at Apple (joining the likes of Samsung) where in the video, a woman asks Google Assistant if storage on the device will ever get full, in which a popup that looks strikingly similar to popups you see on iOS says “Storage Full”.
This is something we know that isn’t a particularly uncommon occurrence for iOS users, although it can be mitigated by using music streaming services and also cloud services like iCloud to store and backup photos which can take up a lot of room. Presumably this little jab is also to highlight how owners of the Pixel 2 handsets will be given unlimited Google Photos storage until 2020.
That being said, as good as this ad is, it doesn’t negate the fact that the Pixel 2 handsets were launched with quite a slew of problems ranging from hardware to software issues. A recent issue involved how the oleophobic coating on some Pixel 2 XL handsets were wearing off despite the fact that the phones were released less than a month ago.
