After months of rumors, OnePlus today announced its new flagship smartphone officially. It has confirmed the OnePlus 5T specs, price, and release date today. The news doesn’t come as a surprise, though, given that almost everything about the OnePlus 5T had already leaked online before the official announcement.
OnePlus has jumped on the bezel-less bandwagon with this device. The OnePlus 5T has a 6 inch OLED 1080 x 2160 pixel resolution display with 18:9 aspect ratio and slim bezels. The physical home button has subsequently been removed as well and the fingerprint sensor can now be found at the back.
The internals are more or less the same as the OnePlus 5. The new flagship is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 128GB storage. It comes with a 3,300mAh battery.
After the display, only the changes made to the camera system are really significant. Instead of the wide and telephoto lens dual camera of the OnePlus 5, the OnePlus 5T has a second “low-light camera.”
It’s still a combination of a 16 megapixel primary camera with a 20 megapixel secondary camera but the latter sensor has a new f/1.7 aperture to match the primary sensor. This should, at least in theory, enable the camera to perform better in low-light conditions.
The front facing 16 megapixel camera has been retained but it has picked up some new tricks. The OnePlus 5T has a face unlock feature which works using the front camera.
Other than these changes, it’s essentially the same phone as the OnePlus 5. The company has confirmed that the OnePlus 5T is going to be available in the United States starting November 21st for $499 and $559 for the 64GB and 128GB models respectively.
