Some of you might remember that Olympus was selling EyeTrek-branded head mounted devices at the turn of the century. It has now decided to bring back the EyeTrek brand over a decade later. However, it hasn’t created new TV glasses. The latest EyeTrek product is actually aimed at businesses, those that can spend $1,500 on such a product.
EyeTrek INSIGHT EI-10 Smart Glasses have been launched in the United States today. Business-focused, they’re basically open-source smart glasses that can be mounted on regular and even protective eyeglasses.
The patented optical system enables users to see the display without blocking their eyesight. This provides them with easily accessible information whenever they need it without interfering with their activities.
The small 640 x 400 OLED sits in the corner of the user’s vision when the product is worn. There’s a small front camera for taking photos and videos. It’s powered by Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean and features a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Its specifications include 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, almost half of which will be used for the operating system.
The INSIGHT EI-10 incorporates both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for connecting to networks and peripheral devices. The battery’s hot swap capabilities make it a good fit for demanding business activities.
Olympus has confirmed that the EyeTrek INSIGHT EI-10 will be available for purchase later this month for $1,500. A 5-pack for the battery costs an additional $210.
