Smartphones with dual cameras are all the rage these days and while HTC hasn’t jumped on this bandwagon recently, the company has confirmed that it’s going to return to the dual camera smartphone market in 2018. Some of you might remember that it was the HTC EVO 3D that was one of the first devices on the market with a dual camera.
Soon after launching the HTC U11+ in Taiwan, HTC President Chialin Chang confirmed that the company will be re-entering the dual camera smartphone market in 2018.
“We’ll definitely be releasing a dual-camera phone next year, but we’ll need to figure out how to make this feature stand out,” he told media representatives in an interview.
HTC didn’t really do much to advance dual camera technology on its smartphones after the EVO 3D. It didn’t help that the 3D hype died down soon after that. While it has remained on the sidelines, companies like Samsung, LG, Huawei, and Apple have launched new models with dual cameras.
Chang didn’t reveal a lot of details about HTC’s dual camera smartphone so it’s unclear at this point in time if it’s going to be a flagship handset or a premium mid-range device. He did confirm that HTC is going to release just five to six handsets in total next year.
