Netflix recently confirmed that the upcoming sixth season of House of Cards is going to be last. The company announced that it was pulling the plug on the hit show after allegations of sexual harassment were made against the show’s lead, Kevin Spacey. Netflix has now decided to fire Spacey from the show after another report with accusations of sexual misconduct was published earlier this week. If Netflix does decide to bring House of Cards back for the sixth season, Spacey won’t be in it.
Prior to announcing that it had decided to fire Spacey from the show, Netflix had announced that production on the sixth season had been suspended indefinitely. It became uncertain if Netflix would even release the final season.
“Netflix will not be involved with any further production of House of Cards that includes Kevin Spacey,” the company confirmed in a statement. Netflix adds that it will continue working with Media Rights Capital, the studio that produces the show for Netflix, to evaluate a path forward for the show.
MRC issued its own statement confirming that Spacey has been suspended effective immediately and that it’s going to work with Netflix to evaluate a creative path forward for the show during this hiatus.
It remains to be seen if the sixth season is ever going to be released and even if it does, now we know that Spacey won’t be in it.
