Microsoft has decided to rebrand the payments framework that’s built into Windows 10. You might have heard of a little something called Microsoft Wallet. The framework was also known on the Windows Phone as Microsoft Wallet initially. It’s no longer going to be called that, though, because the company has decided to brand it to Microsoft Pay in Windows 10.
An update to the Microsoft Store has been rolled out today which implements this name change. The Wallet user interface has been updated with this release to rebrand it to Microsoft Pay.
It’s a minor change but it’s definitely worth it. Microsoft Pay certainly sounds cleaner than Microsoft Wallet. Moreover, it’s in line with other services like Apple Pay and Android Pay, even though there isn’t a mobile ecosystem that Microsoft has to enable its users to make payments on the go with this service.
Perhaps Microsoft is thinking about revamping its payments service and the rebrand is its first step in that direction. The digital payments space is heating up and it wouldn’t be surprising if Microsoft fancies itself a piece of the pie.
Microsoft hasn’t dropped any hints about that so far, though, so it’s unclear if its intentions for this payments framework expand beyond a mere rebranding. We’ll have to wait and see how this plays out.
