Microsoft has teamed up with India-based ride-hailing company Ola to develop a new connected car platform for the future. This isn’t something that Microsoft and Ola will keep for themselves. They’ve clearly said that this new connected car platform is going to be offered to car manufacturers globally.
This strategic partnership between Microsoft and Ola will see the latter adopting Microsoft has its preferred cloud provider. It’s also going to use Microsoft Azure to power Ola Play, it’s existing connected car platform.
The new connected car platform is going to transform driver and passenger experiences with improved in-car productivity, vehicle diagnostics, advanced navigation, predictive maintenance of vehicles, and more.
Ola Play is at the heart of this partnership. It’s a connected car platform for ridesharing. The platform will now leverage Microsoft’s AI and IoT services to provide enhanced cloud-based productivity and infotainment features.
Ola Play customers will now be able to use productivity apps like Skype for Business and Office 365 in-car during their rides. The advanced telematics platform will make the car more intelligent, enabling it to assess fuel efficiency as well as driver and engine performance.
Microsoft and Ola have reiterated that they’re going to collaborate and take this platform to car manufacturers globally. It will be offered to them so that they can integrate it into their in-car infotainment systems.
It remains to be seen how long it’s going to be before this platform is found in a production car.
