KFC Launches An ‘Internet Escape Pod’ For $10,000

Have you ever wanted to perhaps break away from the internet and maybe go offline for a couple of hours, day or two, maybe? There are some devices out there that will help you with that, but it seems that there is an unlikely ally in championing your offline status has come up with a novel solution: an escape pod.

By now based on the photo above it’s probably pretty obvious that this escape pod was created by KFC. The company has launched what they are calling an “Internet Escape Pod” which they are selling on their website for a whopping $10,000. It sounds like it could be an April Fools joke, but we’re several months too early for that.

According to the description, “Find sanctuary for yourself and your loved ones under Colonel Sanders and his Internet Escape Pod. Yup, this dome is like a magic force field designed to disrupt the internet coming to and from your devices.” Whether or not it will actually work as advertised remains to be seen, but KFC is reminding customers that “our specialty is fried chicken, not internet-blocking cages.”

That being said, this isn’t the first time that the fast food chain has attempted some novelty tech gimmicks, ranging from a serving tray that acts as Bluetooth keyboard, to a chicken box that can also charge your smartphone. So, any takers?
