Free trials for subscriptions aren’t new in iOS, but it seems that with the release of iOS 11.2, developers will be able to offer their users introductory pricing. This is according to the latest iOS 11.2 beta release notes in which it mentions introductory pricing subscriptions as one of the features of the software update.
It reads, “Soon, you’ll be able to offer new customers a discounted introductory price for your auto- renewable subscriptions on the App Store.” Like we said, free trials have been offered in the past, but now don’t be surprised if you start seeing introductory pricing for subscriptions being offered for apps/services in the iTunes App Store in the future following the release of iOS 11.2.
This move seems to favor developers and is also part of a bigger initiative introduced by Apple last year, where they reduced their cut of 30% from subscriptions to 15% if developers could keep customers subscribed for at least a year.
