Samsung Galaxy S9 Could Feature Iris And Facial Scanners

Ever since Apple launched the iPhone X with its Face ID facial recognition feature, the rumors are now all claiming that Android OEMs are expected to follow suit, but could Samsung be one of them? According to a report out of Korea from ETNews (via PhoneArena), the answer is yes, and that the Galaxy S9 could feature a facial recognition system.

This is actually not the first time we’re hearing that the Galaxy S9 could sport facial recognition, but whether or not it will be able to match up with Apple’s Face ID remains to be seen. The report goes on to claim that the Galaxy S9 will also see an improved iris scanner, although it was not stated as to what might be improved on, perhaps faster recognition.

Note that previous Samsung handsets did come with facial recognition, although it used a different system compared to the TrueDepth setup on the iPhone X and wasn’t quite as adept or as secure. So far the rumors we’ve heard about the Galaxy S9 is that it could maintain its 4GB of RAM setup, and that it will be packing the Samsung Exynos 9810 chipset that was officially announced by Samsung earlier this month.

However there have also been reports that the phone could feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845, but presumably there will be different models for different markets like we’ve seen in the past.
