You might have heard that a live action Pokemon movie is in the works based on Detective Pikachu, and now according to a report from Variety, it seems that the movie has found its lead actor in the form of Justice Smith, who for those unfamiliar starred in movies such as Paper Towns and Netflix’s The Get Down.
At this point it is unclear as to who Smith will be playing in the movie, but it will be a lead role. Presumably he won’t be Pikachu since that part will most likely be in the form of CGI. We have also previously heard that there could be some big names potentially attached to the movie, such as Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Mark Wahlberg, and Dwayne Johnson, although we haven’t really heard much from that front yet.
The movie will be directed by Rob Letterman and will be written by Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch. There is no word on when the movie will be released or what it will be about, save that it will be Pokemon-related. Whether or not this movie will be able to break the curse that is movies based on video games remains to be see, but in the meantime we have also heard that a Mario movie could be in the works, which we admit should be rather interesting.
