Apple has rolled out an update for its popular GarageBand app today. The update adds a new Sound Library to the app which is basically a sound pack store. Users can download and install new virtual instruments and sound/loop packs from this store. There are eight new packs and instruments available initially and Apple has promised that it will add more to the store in the future.
It’s not like users couldn’t get custom sounds in GarageBand before. However, the process wasn’t as easy. The Sound Library makes it very easy for users to get access to more virtual instrument and sound packs than ever before.
The eight new packs and instruments that are available starting today from the Sound Library are all offered to users for free. This way, Apple can provide users who like to create music in GarageBand a lot more options, and who doesn’t like more options?
It’s unclear at this point in time if Apple will allow third-parties to offer their own sound packs in the Sound Library. It does seem like a platform where third-parties can list these packs either for free or for some money. Whether or not this is part of Apple’s plan remains to be seen, the company hasn’t said anything about this possibility so far.
The three new instruments include taiko drums, the koto and guzheng. Apple hasn’t confirmed if it’s going to bring the Sound Library to the desktop version of GarageBand as this update has only been rolled out for the iOS version.
