Logitech recently announced that it was going to end support for the Harmony Link universal media hubs. As you can probably imagine, those who own one weren’t too pleased about it. Logitech released the first Harmony Link device back in 2011. It announced earlier this week that the devices will not be able to function after March 16th, 2018. Following backlash from its customers, Logitech has decided to offer a free Harmony Hub to its Harmony Link customers.
The company had previously said that only those Harmony Link owners that have active warranties will be upgraded to a new Harmony Hub for free. Customers who longer had devices covered by their warranty would only get a one time 35 percent discount on a new Harmony Hub that costs $100.
That would have been the case for most customers given that Harmony Link devices were last sold in 2015. The backlash from customers has forced Logitech to reconsider this. The company has now said that it’s going to give all Harmony Link owners a new Harmony Hub for free.
Customers who have already used the 35 percent discount coupon to buy a new Hub will be able to get a refund for the price difference by contacting Logitech. The company has also reiterated that it’s not going to expand support for the Harmony Link.
“We made the business decision to end the support and services of the Harmony Link when the encryption certificate expires in the spring of 2018 – we would be acting irresponsibly by continuing the service knowing its potential/future vulnerability,” it said.
