Google launched its rumored live TV streaming as YouTube TV earlier this year in April. The company has since added new features and channels to the service. However, the only way to watch YouTube TV on the big screen has been through Chromecast. Google didn’t release any Android TV or smart TV apps for its streaming service at launch. It’s finally rectifying that now. Google today announced the launch of the new YouTube TV app that’s made for the big screen.
The company mentions that YouTube TV members who stream with a Chromecast watch over four hours a day on the weekends. Its new app is going to cater to those highly engaged users. The new YouTube TV app is built for smart TV devices.
It’s going to be released for Android TV devices, TVs that run on Android TV software, Xbox One and even the Apple TV. The app is going to be rolled out in the next few days. It will be launched on smart TVs by LG, Samsung, Sony, and the Apple TV in the coming weeks.
The app will enable users to control the live TV experience with their TV’s remote control or game controller. The app background has been made dark on TVs for a cinematic look. There’s also a new Live guide and background playback experience for the big screen.
Google’s YouTube TV service is now available in all top 50 metro areas in the United States, covering over two-thirds of the country.
