Gifting games to friends using platforms like Steam isn’t new, but for some reason Xbox One gamers do not have access to such a feature, at least not yet. However the good news is that according to a report from Windows Central, the game gifting feature appears to be rolling out to some Xbox Insiders.
Prior to this one of the ways that gamers could gift games to other gamers would be to purchase a physical copy of the game and give it to them, or purchase a gift card. While both these methods work just fine, we suppose the option of being able to gift a game directly does have a more personal touch added to it, and like we said the feature seems to be live and functional for Xbox Insiders running 1710 preview builds.
According to the report, the feature is pretty straightforward in terms of how it works, where users can choose to send a gift using the person’s email address or their Xbox Live Gamertag and attach a personal message to it, which is pretty standard as far as online gifting is concerned.
The person receiving the game will receive a notification in their email with a redeemable 25-digit prepaid code that can be redeemed via Xbox Live to any Microsoft account. Presumably this feature should be announced soon as it appears to already be functional, so we’ll be keeping an eye out for it and any additional details.
