SNES Classic Hacked To Play Custom ROMs

When the NES Classic was first launched, the console came with 30 games preinstalled on it, which had some wondering if maybe it was possible that more games could be added to the system in the future. Nintendo was quick to shoot down that possibility, which meant that gamers probably shouldn’t expect something similar with the SNES Classic.

However the good news is that if you wanted to play games that weren’t on the system, you’ll be pleased to learn that hackers have already managed to successfully hack the SNES Classic which was released not too long ago. This means that gamers who want to run custom ROMs and add new games to the system will be able to do so.

There are a couple of different hacks available at the moment that should work with the SNES Classic, but The Verge points out that there is a new version of Hackchi2 that has been released that is supposedly easier to handle. Of course there is always the possibility that you could end up bricking your console, but if the allure of being able to run custom ROMs and play other games is too great, then this is something you could look into.

In the meantime Nintendo had previously hid a message for hackers in the NES Classic which has us wondering if they did the same for the SNES Classic as well.
