Have you ever found yourself wondering whether or not an SD or microSD card will be capable of working in sub-zero temperatures? If you’ve ever thought about that, you should see what the new high-speed Automotive and Industrial lineup of SD and microSD cards from SanDisk are capable of. As you can probably imagine, these cards are meant for specialized applications. They work in extreme temperatures for a long period of time.
The SanDisk Industrial lineup is available in 8-64GB flavors in SD and 8-128GB in microSD form factors. The company says that they can withstand “mildly” extreme temperatures from -25ºC to 85ºC for extended periods of time.
The company’s new Automotive lineup of cards in only available in the SD form factor in 8-64GB capacities. They are meant for use in cars, drones, and other moving vehicles.
They happen to be compliant with the AEC-Q100 Grade 3 requirements and are capable of operating in extreme temperatures ranging from -40ºC to 85ºC.
The new cards have support for the Health Status Monitor feature. This allows OEMs to keep an eye on capacity usage, performance levels, and other factors. However, it needs the host system to support it in order for this functionality to work.
SanDisk has said that it’s sampling the new cars to OEMs across the globe but it can’t say when they will start using them in their products.
