Pixel Buds Are Google’s First Wireless Earphones

The Google Pixel Buds have been announced today. As the name suggests, they’re the first wireless earphones that the company has ever made. They’ve been announced alongside a slew of new hardware products today, including but not limited to the new Pixel handsets and the Pixelbook. Google says that the Pixel Buds sound great, are seamless to use and charge. They also offer help from Google Assistant.

The Pixel Buds have a unique fabric loop which makes them comfortable, secure, and quick to adjust. All of the audio controls have been placed into a touchpad on the right earbud so no buttons hang on the cord.

Charging and storing the Pixel Buds is easy as well. They are secured in a pocket-sized charging case which provides 24 hours of listening time. In order to pair them to a smartphone, just open the charging case near an Android smartphone running Android 7.0 Nougat or higher with Assistant.

Users can touch and hold the right earbud to ask Assistant to play music, make a phone call, get directions, and more without having to pull our their smartphone. Assistant can also alert users about an upcoming calendar event or incoming message. It can even read the message aloud to the user.

The Pixel Buds are also capable of translating between languages in real time using Google Translate on Pixel. Users can hold down on the right earbud and say “Help me speak French.” As the user talks, the Pixel phone’s speaker will play the translation out in French loudly. If the person on the other end responds in French, users will hear the translation through their Pixel Buds.

Priced at $159, the Pixel Buds will be available in November. Pre-orders are open today. They’re sold in Just Black, Clearly White, and Kinda Blue colors.
