Overwatch Is Now Boasting 35 Million Players

Sometimes knowing when to let go of a project can actually lead to greater things, like in the case of Blizzard’s Project Titan next-gen MMO that was cancelled, scrapped, and repurposed into Overwatch. The project was years in the making but it seems that all their efforts did not go to waste as Overwatch is now boasting 35 million players and counting.

Blizzard’s Overwatch was originally released back in 2016 and it seems that a little over a year later, the game has managed to hit 35 million players. This is impressive when you consider that it was earlier this year in April where Overwatch managed to hit 30 million players, so for them to gain an additional 5 million in about half a year is a pretty amazing feat.

More so when you consider that Overwatch represents a brand new IP for Blizzard, and does not have any previous lore or a fanbase to fall back on, unlike Warcraft, StarCraft, or Diablo, although we guess there are gamers out there who will play any or all of Blizzard’s games. Blizzard has also been actively trying to champion Overwatch as an eSports title by launching their own professional league. Recently a 17-year old Overwatch pro managed to nab himself a whopping $150,000 a year salary.
