Augmented reality is set to be the next big thing in technology and one that we probably won’t be able to escape from in the future, or at least that’s what Apple’s CEO Tim Cook is suggesting. Now we’ve seen various uses of the technology, such as placing furniture around the home to get an idea of how it will match the rest of your home, but what about for plants?
Keeping indoor plants is more than just about decorating your home or adding a pop of color. Indoor plants have various health benefits, such as being able to lift your mood or even improve on the air quality, and a new app called Plant Life Balance has been launched that will take advantage of augmented reality technology to help users plan what kind of plants to place in their room, and where to put it.
The app was developed together with scientists at RMIT University and the University of Melbourne in Australia. The study involved at determining how different plants can absorb volatile organic compounds and other particles, such as dust, pollen, soot, and smoke. It also takes into consideration the size of the plant, how big its leaves are, how tall they are, and how a combination of big and small plants will help maximize the health benefits in the room.
It is a rather novel idea, but at the same time it is also an interesting way of applying augmented reality technology to help improve on our health. The app is available for download via the iTunes App Store or Google Play depending on your mobile platform.
