However Samsung might not be alone in their efforts because in a report from The Korea Investor, Apple could want in on the action as well. The publication claims that Apple has begun working on an iPhone prototype with a foldable display, a display that they will apparently be sourcing from LG instead of Samsung due to concerns of their plans being leaked by their rival.
The report goes on to claim that LG Display has created a task force to help develop a foldable OLED display, while LG Innotek is said to have setup a team to develop rigid flexible printed circuit boards. Unfortunately it seems that if this foldable iPhone does surface, it won’t be anytime soon as panel production is rumored to only begin in 2020.
Needless to say you should take this with a grain of salt for now since we’re not sure if foldable phones are even the next big thing. However we wouldn’t be surprised if Apple were creating a prototype just to test out the concept, but whether or not that prototype ever materializes is a different story.
