Star Wars: Episode IX Director Confirmed

Disney already confirmed a while back that Star Wars: Episode IX is going to be released in 2019. It will be the final movie in the new trilogy that started off with Star Wars: Episode VII. It was previously reported that Jurassic World’s Colin Trevorrow was going to direct this movie but we heard recently that he had dropped out of the project. Disney has confirmed the Star Wars: Episode IX director.

It was reported a couple of weeks ago that Disney and Lucasfilm were in talks with JJ Abrams to bring him on as the director. The studio was reportedly trying to work out a deal which would enable Abrams to return.

Abrams previously took the directors gig for Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the movie that started off this new trilogy. It grossed $2.06 billion worldwide, making it the third highest-grossing film of all time.

Disney today confirmed that Abrams will be back in the director’s chair to direct Star Wars: Episode IX. He is also going to co-write the movie with Chris Terrio.

“With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy,” said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.

Star Wars: Episode IX is due to be released on May 24th, 2019.
