As we have said many times before, no software can ever be 100% secure or perfect, because it is impossible for a company to test the endless possibilities of user behavior or the various attack combinations that hackers might use to try and break it, which is why companies need to stay on top of things.
It looks like Samsung is doing just that as the company has recently launched the Mobile Security Rewards Program, which is basically a bounty program for bugs related to its mobile devices like smartphones. Users/developers who discover bugs and flaws in Samsung’s mobile software stand a chance to be rewarded with a cash prize, with the value dependent on how severe the flaw is.
However it seems that Samsung is only after certain types of flaws, and that not all bug discoveries will be rewarded. Basically bugs that have no security impact will not be eligible for the cash prize, and that it needs to be a flaw in which no physical connection to the device is required, meaning it has to be a flaw that can be exploited remotely.
According to Samsung, these flaws will be categorized into four levels: low, moderate, high, and critical, with payouts ranging from a minimum of $200 and can even go up to $200,000 for the most severe ones.
