We have seen similar effects in the past, like when Apple introduced Touch ID, it definitely created a boom in the industry and saw many other companies introduce fingerprint scanning tech in their phones, which is why it isn’t surprising to see the same happening with facial recognition systems.
According to George Brostoff, chief executive officer of SensibleVision Inc., “We now have a leader like Apple acknowledging that this makes sense. This makes companies like Motorola, like LG come knocking on the doors of companies like ours.” That being said, we suppose we’ll have to wait and see how Face ID performs before we see other phones start incorporating similar features.
After all while Touch ID might have been a success at introducing fingerprint scanning tech to phones, 3D Touch did not have the same success with pressure-sensitive displays. There was a lot of hype but the feature never did quite become as mainstream as Apple would have liked.
