One of those people was The Pokemon Company’s CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara who during a recent interview with Bloomberg (via Game Rant) said that he initially thought that the Switch would be a failure. According to Ishihara, “I told Nintendo that Switch wouldn’t be a success before it went on sale, because I thought that in the age of the smartphone, no one would carry around a game console. It’s obvious I was wrong.”
To a certain extent we can see where Ishihara is coming from, especially with many crying out for Nintendo to get into the mobile scene as that was where it appeared that gaming was headed. However it seems that the critics were wrong as the Switch has since gone on to do pretty well for itself. In fact recent numbers have revealed that Nintendo has managed to sell 1.5 million units in Japan alone about half a year into the console’s release.
