No Official Bootloader Unlock Method For The Nokia 8

The beauty of Android devices is that they are highly customizable, where users can download various ROMs, tools, and tweak their phones to their liking, creating something completely customized to their use and preferences. However sometimes unlocking the bootloader of a device is necessary for deeper customization.

This is where it gets tricky, where some handset makers will gladly provide users with an official bootloader unlocking tool, while others claim that doing so will void warranty. Unfortunately for those who are hopping back onto the Nokia bandwagon, it seems that HMD Global has no plans to provide users of the Nokia 8 an official bootloader unlocking method for now.

In a tweet by Juho Sarvikas, HMD Global’s chief product officer, he stated that the company has no plans to unlock its bootloaders for now. “Sorry, we wont unlock it due to security however we will share our kernel modifications back to the open source community, wip”. Sarvikas does have a point regarding security, but other manufacturers have allowed unlocked bootloaders in the past, so we don’t see why they couldn’t either.

Perhaps the company could change its mind in the future, but for now if you do plan on getting a Nokia device, this is something to take into consideration especially if you plan on tweaking the phone.
