The Nintendo Switch uses microSD cards to expand on its memory, which is assuming you will use it if you plan on going full digital with your game purchases versus purchasing them in their cartridge form. If you do, then you know that there are various microSD cards out there that you can use, which can be a bit confusing as to which might be “best” or most suitable.
If you’re looking for a new microSD card for your Switch, then you might be interested to learn that Nintendo and Western Digital have teamed up to create Nintendo-licensed Switch microSDXC cards. Basically these are microSD cards that have been approved/licensed by Nintendo for use on the Switch, and whether or not these are the “best” cards that you can use remains to be seen, but in case you’re trying to avoid cards that might be incompatible, then this should offer up some peace of mind.
The microSDXC cards that will be available come in 64GB and 128GB capacities and will feature the Nintendo Switch and SanDisk logos on them, so keep an eye out for those images if you’re trying to determine if these are official. The microSDXC cards will be available this coming October, but there is no word on pricing just yet, however we expect that apart from the official licensing from Nintendo, they should be pretty much the same as the regular microSDXC cards, so don’t expect too great of a price variation.
