Some Nexus 6P Owners Getting Pixel XLs As Warranty Replacements

In terms of specs and features, the Nexus 6P on paper is a pretty solid device, although unfortunately it was discovered later that the phone came with a rather serious set of problems, such as being stuck in a bootloop, as well as battery issues where it would die suddenly on owners.

Now the good news is that it looks like Google is offering to fix the problem by replacing Nexus 6P handsets bought from the Google Store with the Pixel XL. This doesn’t seem to be an official procedure for Google, but there have been reports from various Nexus 6P owners who claim to have receive Pixel XL handsets as warranty replacements.

This seems to be limited to the US and Canada at the moment where if you’re lucky, your Nexus 6P could be replaced by the newer Pixel XL. We’re not sure how Google determines who gets what, but it could be an issue with supply so Google could be giving users the next best thing, but either way we guess for those who lucked out, it is basically a free upgrade.

Some users are given 32GB Pixel XL models, while others are reporting 128GB models, although it seems that if you own the 64GB Nexus 6P, there’s a higher chance of you getting the 128GB Pixel XL. In the meantime users who are experiencing bootloop problems can find a fix here, or alternatively try their luck at getting a Pixel XL as a replacement by filling this form here.
