Nest today unveiled two new smart home products. Nest Cam IQ outdoor is a smart security camera with facial recognition technology. The Nest Hello is a smart doorbell with HD video capability. The camera is a successor to the Nest Cam IQ indoor that was announced earlier this year in June. As the name suggests, the new camera is meant to be placed outside so that you can keep an eye on what’s going on outside.
The Nest Cam IQ outdoor is intelligent enough that it can tell a person apart from a thing. It alerts the user when it senses that someone’s there. The Nest Aware subscription service adds intelligence and video storage features.
The camera is a durable device and can hold its own against rain, snow, and wind. The power cable is hidden so it’s tamper-resistant. Like the indoor version, it has a 4K digital sensor with HDR and 1080p HD video. Supersight lets users zoom in up to 12x and get an enhanced view of a specific area.
Nest has launched a new smart doorbell called the Hello. It’s a small device not much larger than a remote. It’s capable of streaming live HD video to the user’s phone and can also send and receive audio.
The smart doorbell has 160 degree field of view so it can also see packages that are laying on the ground. Like the Nest Cam IQ cameras, the camera has HDR support.
Those who subscribe to Nest Aware will find that the Hello is capable of constantly monitoring activity outside the user’s front door and send alerts to their smartphone when it feels something is off.
The same facial recognition capability that’s offered on the security cams is offered on the Hello as well.
Nest will ship the Nest Cam IQ outdoor this November for $349. Nest Aware costs $10 per month. Nest Hello will ship in the first quarter of 2018. The company is yet to confirm the price.
