The much-rumored Apple TV with 4K support has been launched today by Apple at its event at the Steve Jobs Theater in Cupertino. The company today introduced the new Apple TV 4K. The set-top box has support for both 4K and High Dynamic Range. It supports the HDR10 and Dolby Vision standards.
Now that the Apple TV has support for 4K HDR, Apple will start offering 4K HDR movies on iTunes. All iTunes users will get automatic upgrades of HD titles in their current library to 4K HDR versions as they become available at no extra charge.
Apple has also confirmed that popular video streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video will soon provide Apple TV 4K users with 4K HDR content streaming as well.
The Apple TV 4K is powered by the company’s A10X Fusion chip, it’s the same chip that powers the iPad Pro. It supports both Dolby Vision and HDR10 standards for greater compatibility. The new Apple TV has a built-in high performance 4K video scaler which makes HD content look even better on a 4K TV.
Apple is also bringing live sports to Apple TV with this new set-top box. Sports fans in the United States will be able to track their favorite teams and get on-screen notifications whenever they’re playing a game.
Prices for the Apple TV 4K start at $179 for the 32GB model and $199 for the 64GB model. Pre-orders begin September 15th with the product being released on September 22nd.
