It has been a while since the Android 8.0 Oreo update has started to make its way onto various Android handsets, but it looks like there are still quite a bit of issues with the update. In a recent tweet by Android Police’s Artem Russakovskii, it seems that the Settings app keeps crashing following the update.
However this only seems to happen when trying to view mobile or WiFi data usage, meaning that in all other instances it is not an issue. Russakovskii does not appear to be alone with this particular issue as quite a few other Android users have since come forward and claimed that they are experiencing this issue as well.
What’s particularly interesting is that it appears that based on the Issue Tracker, this problem has been discovered as early in March by someone at Xiaomi, and that apparently a fix was submitted to the master branch of AOSP, but it did not seem to make the Oreo release branch for the Pixel XL, which appears to be the handset experiencing the issue.
Not every Android user is affected by this problem so if you don’t experience it then we guess that’s a good thing. It’s not exactly a huge bug, but just an annoying one that hopefully Google will address in future updates to the platform.
