The iconic Wu-Tang Clan publicly revealed that it had created a new album called Once Upon A Time In Shaolin. It’s a unique album in that only one copy has been made and that was sold to controversial hedge fund manager Martin Shkreli for $2 million. A main condition of purchase was that the buyer can’t commercially exploit the album until the year 2103. Shkreli is now selling his $2 million Wu-Tang Clan album on eBay.
Shkreli a.k.a “pharma bro” gained notoriety after he decided to raise the price of an anti-toxoplamosis drug by 5,000 percent in 2015. It was also revealed later that year that he was the mystery buyer who had picked up Once Upon A Time In Shaolin for $2 million.
Shkreli has had some major legal troubles over the past few years so this could be viewed as an attempt by him to raise money. He says that this isn’t the case. Shkreli says that he may cancel this eBay sale at any time and that he “may even break this album in frustration.” He adds that half of the sale proceeds will go to medical research.
Shkreli actually broadcast selections from the album after Donald Trump won the election last year but even he hasn’t listened to it completely. It’s unclear how much the album is going to fetch on eBay but the bids have already crossed $100,000 as of this writing.
