Tesla Model 3 Performance Version Due Next Year
Tesla finally released the Model 3 late last month. It has been a long road for the company. Its first mass-market electric car has had to jump through a lot of hoops to become a reality. The company handed off the first 30 production units to some of the first few customers last week and will now gradually ramp up production to meet the 400,000+ outstanding orders for the Model 3. Tesla has also revealed that there’s going to be a performance version of the Model 3 which will be launched next year.
Tesla is currently offering two different iterations of the Model 3. The model that starts at $35,000 offers a 220 mile range whereas the model that starts at $45,000 offers 300+ miles of range.
A performance version of the Model 3 is likely going to have dual electric motors, as we’ve seen with performance versions of the Model S, and will feature a bigger battery for faster speeds and longer range.
Tesla co-founder and CEO Elon Musk was asked on Twitter if Tesla intends to launch a performance version of the Model 3 at some point. Musk replied that Tesla will do that “probably middle of next year.”
The company is currently focused on getting out of “Model 3 production hell,” which is basically a way of saying that it wants to ramp up Model 3 production to full capacity before it starts taking orders for a new model.
